Maldivian badminton player wins gold at Special Olympics World Games
Maldivian badminton player Aishath Maniya Adam has won a gold medal at the Special Olympics World Games ongoing in Berlin, Germany.
Manya advanced to the final after winning against players representing Mongolia and Jordan. Manya won the gold medal by defeating Bulgaria’s Thianka Georgieva in straight sets in the final. She clinched the first set with a score of 21-19 and dominated the second with a 21-10 triumph.
Maniya’s victory marks the first-ever gold medal secured by a Maldivian badminton player in the Special Olympics. She is coached by Aishat Afnan Rasheed (Naanu) of the national senior badminton team.
The Maldives’ Shifna Ibrahim also won the gold medal in the 100m at the Special Olympics World Games.
