MATI’s board given an additional term
The current board of the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) has been given an additional term on the association’s board.
The majority of the participants at the MATI Annual General Meeting held at Kurumba Maldives on Sunday decided to give an additional term to the 17 members of the MATI Exco.
MATI’s Chairman is Universal Group’s Chairman, Mohamed Umar Manik (MU Manik). Champa Group shareholder Hussain Afeef and Voyages Maldives shareholder Solah Shihab are the vice chairmen of the board. The Secretary-General is Ahmed Nazeer, a shareholder of Crown Company.
At the general meeting, MATI members expressed their concern over the fact that the amount of revenue was not increasing at a similar rate despite the taxes payable to the state increasing year by year. They also noted that the expenditure of resorts has increased due to the increase in the price of oil and basic commodities as a result of the ongoing wars and conflicts in the world.
MATI has been playing a major role in promoting tourism as a sustainable sector in the Maldives for 40 years.
